It’s a new year with new excitement. Have you all made your New Year’s resolutions and wishes?
This weekend, on January 3, the night sky will be filled with the first full moon of the new year, and it’s not like any other: it’s a supermoon. A supermoon is when the moon rises at its closest point to Earth, and this Saturday’s moon is predicted to be about 6% larger and 13% brighter than usual.
The first full moon of the new year, and the first supermoon, is called the
is so big and bright that it’s been nicknamed the “Wolf Moon.
It’s as if the moon has stepped up to the plate to listen more closely to our wishes, and somehow, when you make a wish under a bigger, brighter full moon than ever before, it feels like it’s more likely to come true. If you miss this one, you won’t be able to see a supermoon until later this year in November, so why not go out for a night walk this weekend to celebrate?
Here are some of the best places to watch the supermoon in Seoul.
1. Nowon Astronomy and Space Science Center
Nowon Astronomy and Space Science Center is running a night observation program until February this year.

7. Pangyo Lake Park, Bundang
I’m a writer for Secret Seoul, but I actually live in Pangyo, Bundang, so I’m selflessly recommending this place.
The other day, on my way home from a quick beer with my sister, I saw an unusually clear starry night sky and realized that the skies were much clearer than in Seoul.
If you want to enjoy the moon and stars in a place with relatively little light pollution in the city center, I recommend Pangyo Lake Park.
