With its mountains and rivers, Seoul has a more dynamic landscape than any other city. We’ve compiled a list of places you should visit on your trip to Seoul, places that even Seoulites can enjoy with a traveler’s mindset, and places that come to mind when you think of Seoul.
1. Namsan

Namsan Towerhas long been an iconic landmark in Seoul, even before the city’s iconic skyscrapers, but it’s not as crowded as other tourist attractions, so you can spend a relaxing time here. The toweris beautiful in all seasons, from the cherry blossom and fall foliage viewing spots to the Namsan Cable Car and the Namsan Libraryfor the closest view of Namsan. There are many ways to enjoy the panoramic view of Namsan, so choose the one that appeals to you.
2. Gyeongbokgung Palace

Gyeongbokgung Palace is one of the first places many first-time visitors to Seoul visit. After admiring Geunjeongjeon Fortress and Gyeonghoe-ro, which stand stunningly against the backdrop of Bukhak Mountain, leave Gyeongbokgung Palace and take a stroll through Seochon and Bukchon neighborhoods, or the Blue House, which connects the two, for the most pleasant first impression of Seoul. If you have time, you can also visit Deoksugung Palace, Gyeonghuigung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, and Changgyeonggung Palace. Each palace has its own charm.

3. Bukchon Hanok Village

Bukchon Hanok Village is one of the most authentic Korean living environments and is always crowded with foreign tourists. You can share the excitement with them, but if you want a more private experience, you can find a secluded alley and slip away. Be warned. Don’t forget that people actually live in these hanoks. As of this year, some areas of Bukchon Hanok Village are closed to tourists from 10am to 5pm to protect the living environment of the residents.

4. Insadong

Insadong Traditional Culture Street is lined with antique shops, tea houses, and small galleries. There are many landmarks in Insadong, including Samji-gil, a complex cultural space, and Jogyesa Templeacross the street. While you can search for famous places to visit, there are many temple restaurants and traditional teahouses that have long been a part of Insadong, so why not take the opportunity to discover them on your own?
5. Palgakjeong

You don’t have to go to the top of a building to see the night view of Seoul. You can take the Bukaks Skyway, a driving and trekking route, to reach Palgakgakjeong, which offers a bird’s eye view of the city. Convenience store ramen is a must at Palgakjeong, and its friendly content and unobtrusive views make it a great date spot.
6. Lotte World Tower

Lotte World Tower has helped define Seoul’s skyline. The 123-story Lotte World Tower is the tallest building in Korea and has a 500-meter observatory, Seoul Sky. Lotte World Mall is right next door, so you can shop and eat at the same time. Admission to the Seoul Sky Observatory costs 31,000 won.

7. Byeolmadang Library

This place has become famous among foreign tourists over the years and has become a landmark on the list of places to visit. It is located in COEX Mall. During the Christmas season, a large tree is installed and it is very popular.

8. Hangang Park

It would be illegal (?) to come to Seoul in winter or even in the middle of summer and not visit Hangang Park. Even if you’re not from Seoul, you’ll feel a sense of belonging when you spend time there, as you sit on the lawn overlooking the Han River and eat “HanRiver Chimac” or “Han River Ramen,” which have become synonymous with the city. Running along the river is also a great way toget in the mood. You can choose from Yeouido, Seonyudo, Ichon, Banpo, Jamwon, and other parks along the river.
9. Gwangjang Market

One of the first traditional markets in Korea, Gwangjang Market is located in Jongno, making it a great place to stop by on your way to nearby attractions. The market is full of delicious food such as dakgimbap, bindaetteok, and yukhoe. Check out other markets in Seoul here.
