A leisurely weekend in the spring breeze,
reclining in a comfortable chair to read a book,
beyond the pages, cherry blossoms and the panorama of Seoul unfold—a day like that.
Seoul’s outdoor libraries, making such days possible, will soon return.
The Return of Seoul’s Outdoor Libraries
We’ve weathered the long winter well.
On April 23rd, the outdoor library returns to Seoul to welcome spring.
The locations are Gwanghwamun Book Plaza and Seoul Plaza.
Choose one of the two, grab a book, and find your spot.
This week, the Seoul Metropolitan Government is accepting applications to place ‘book baskets’ filled with books chosen directly by citizens.
You can apply with books that moved you deeply or books you’ve always wanted to read.
Invite others into the world on my page,
and it also offers neighbors a chance to glimpse what books others have read and what moved them.
The application period ends this Saturday!
You can applyhere via Google Forms.
Another special reading festival – 2026 Gwanak Book Bread Festival
Gwanak-gu is preparing another special reading festival.
It’s the Book Bread Festival!
In the way they nourish and delight me, books and bread aren’t really that different.
It’s a festival where you can enjoy both daily sustenance and books at the same time.
Independent bookstores from Gwanak-gu and over 40 local bakeries in the district are participating in this festival. This makes it a great chance to discover unique books you don’t usually encounter and hidden gem bakeries in our neighborhood.
Currently recruiting independent bookstores and bakeries to participate with booths until this Saturday.
