The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that it will distribute 2. 25 million 6,000-won movie discount couponsstarting on the 13th. If you combine this with the “Culture Day” discount benefits available on the second and last Wednesdays of every month, you can watch a movie that normally costs a hefty 15,000 wonforas littleas 4,000 won.
🎟️ How do I get the discount coupons?
There’s no complicated application process. If you’re a member of CGV, Lotte Cinema, Megabox, or CineQ, two discount coupons per person will automatically be added to your online member coupon box for each cinema. Simply use these sweet discount coupons when paying for your movie tickets.
But here’s a word of caution! If you hold onto them too long , they might go to waste. Once each theater’s supply of discount coupons runs out, any unused coupons will automatically expirewithout warning, so the early bird catches the worm.
📽️ Independent theaters are also ‘OK’
They can also be used at independent and art-house theaters, small theaters, and senior-friendly theaters!
The list of participating theaters will be available on the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) website (www.kofic.or.kr)starting on the 13th.
While you can use the discount coupons on the website, theaters that cannot access the system will distribute coupons on a first-come, first-served basis.
💡 The art of “stacking discounts”
You can stack these discountswith the disability discount, senior discount, youth discount, and early bird discount! However, even if you combine every possible discount, the final price cannot drop below 1,000 won. If the total price of your movie ticket falls below 1,000 won after applying all discounts, it will be adjusted to 1,000 won.
For people with disabilities and senior citizens who have difficulty booking online, despite the general policy requiring online booking, they can receive the discount in person at the theater, provided they are the ones making the purchase.
However, please note that these coupons cannot be used in conjunction with mobile carrier membership discounts!
