Starting in October, major systems directly related to daily life—such as transportation, administration, welfare, and labor—will undergo reforms. Let’s take a look at four key changes, ranging from railway ticket booking schedules to family passport pickup, child support assistance, and penalties for wage arrears.
Starting October 1, the booking period for KTX and rail tickets will be extended from one month prior to departure to two months prior to departure. As a result, passengers planning long-term trips or business trips will be able to secure seats with greater flexibility.
Starting October 6, a single designated recipient can receive up to five family passports being delivered to the same address in a single batch. When family members apply for passports together, they will be able to receive them all at once without the hassle of picking them up individually.
Starting October 29, the 150% median income threshold for the Child Support Advance Payment Program will be completely abolished. If you have a minor child who is not receiving child support, and you meet the eligibility requirements, you can receive up to 200,000 won per month until the child turns 18, regardless of your income.
Starting October 8, the statutory penalties for employers who fail to pay wages will be strengthened. The penalty will be significantly increased from the current “imprisonment for up to three years or a fine of up to 30 million won” to “imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to 50 million won.”
